At just his second start 3yo colt GARZA BLANCA (I Am Invincible x Mousai) shed his maiden tag in impressive fashion Sent to Murtoa on Saturday 1 October 2022 after debuting at Sandown GARZA BLANCA was the subject of warm support in and started a shade over even money favourite. Jumping alertly GARZA BLANCA settled just behind the pace from the 1300m starting point under jockey Michael Poy. Entering the final 400m GARZA BLANCA angled out to open running and immediately loomed into contention, Rounding the turn into the short home straight GARZA BLANCA balanced up nicely and extended and galloped clear to a 4 1/4 length win without coming off the bridle.

Poy reported after the race that there wasn’t much to say. “He was a class above these and he did it easily. He will learn a lot from the run. He had the race won a long way from home. If the opposition had been better the pace would have been stronger and he would have been even more impressive. He was pretty untested with his ears pricked all the way down the straight. The way that he quickened up and picked up the leaders at the 400m was quicker than I expected and he did it quicker than most horses would. There is a lot of upside and he knocked them off easily this start and most likely will next time as well.”

The plan with GARZA BLANCA is to either head to a 3yo Benchmark 1300m race at Bendigo on Bendigo Cup Day 26 October or to the 1400m Listed Spring Time Stakes on Champions Day, Saturday 5th November, at Flemington. All being well GARZA BLANCA will target the G2 Sandown Guineas over 1600m at Caulfield on Saturday 26 November. Trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace clearly believe that GARZA BLANCA is up to Group Class and exciting times lie ahead.
